Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about your loan – explained clearly and concisely. Can’t find your question? We’re happy to help you personally.

General

What exactly does Iberica Kredit do?

We are a loan broker. This means we don’t lend money ourselves – instead, we find the right offer for you from our partner banks. We support you from the first conversation and the paperwork right through to the payout – personally and in your language.

Do I have to pay for your service?

No. Our advice and brokerage are free of charge for you. In Switzerland, this is even set out in law: under the Consumer Credit Act, customers do not owe the credit broker any fee. We are paid by the lender – and this does not make your loan any more expensive.

Which languages do you advise in?

We advise you in English, German, Portuguese, Spanish and Turkish – by phone, WhatsApp or email. Simply select your preferred language in the application form.

Is my request binding?

No. Your request is 100% non-binding. You receive an offer and can then take your time deciding whether to accept it. Nothing becomes binding until you sign a loan agreement – and even then, you still have a statutory right of withdrawal.

Requirements

Who can apply for a loan?

The exact requirements are set by each bank. As a rule, you need to:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Live in Switzerland
  • Hold Swiss citizenship or a C or B permit
  • Have a regular income from permanent employment
  • Have no outstanding debt enforcement proceedings or certificates of loss
I have a B or G permit – can I still get a loan?

With a B permit, many banks will consider a loan, often provided you have already lived and worked in Switzerland for a certain time. With a G or L permit it is more difficult, but not always impossible. We’ll gladly review your situation free of charge.

What documents do I need?

Depending on the bank, we usually need:

  • A copy of your ID or residence permit
  • Your last three payslips
  • Where applicable, your rental agreement or details of your housing costs
  • For refinancing: a current balance statement for your existing loan

We’ll tell you exactly what your application requires – and receive your documents through a secure channel.

I have debt enforcement records – can I still get a loan?

Outstanding debt enforcement proceedings or certificates of loss lead most banks to decline an application. Older proceedings that have already been settled are not always an obstacle. Talk to us openly – we’ll tell you honestly whether an application makes sense.

Interest & costs

How is my interest rate determined?

The rate depends mainly on your creditworthiness – your income, expenses and payment history – as well as the loan amount and term. Our offers start from 4.9% effective annual rate.

What does “effective annual rate” mean?

The effective annual rate shows the total cost of the loan per year as a percentage – interest plus all other credit costs. It lets you compare offers from different banks fairly.

Is there a maximum interest rate?

Yes. The Swiss Federal Council sets a legal maximum rate for consumer credit. Since 1 January 2026, it has been 10% for cash loans such as personal loans.

How much can I borrow?

Before granting any loan, the bank is legally required to check your creditworthiness: you must be able to make the repayments without touching the part of your income that is protected from seizure (the subsistence minimum). The calculation assumes the loan is repaid within 36 months – even if your actual term is longer. Our loan calculator gives you an idea of your monthly payment.

Process & payout

How does a loan request work?
  • Send your request: fill in the online form – it only takes a few minutes.
  • Consultation: we get back to you within 24 hours to discuss your situation.
  • Offer: we obtain the right offer and explain it to you.
  • Contract & payout: you sign, and the loan is paid out once the withdrawal period has ended.
How long until the money is paid out?

We get back to you within 24 hours of your request. Once all documents are complete, the bank usually decides within a few days. After you sign the contract, the statutory 14-day withdrawal period applies – the loan can only be paid out after that.

Can I withdraw from the loan agreement?

Yes. You can withdraw from your loan agreement in writing within 14 days. The period starts as soon as you have received your copy of the contract.

Can I repay my loan early?

Yes, at any time – in full or in part. If you repay early, you are legally entitled to have the interest for the unused period waived. The exact terms are set out in your loan agreement.

Privacy & credit checks

Is my data safe with you?

Yes. Your details are transmitted in encrypted form, treated confidentially and used only to process your request. We only pass them on to a lender in order to obtain an offer for you. Find out more in our privacy policy.

What are the IKO and ZEK?

The IKO (Consumer Credit Information Office) and the ZEK (Central Office for Credit Information) collect information on existing loans in Switzerland. Banks are required by law to report the consumer loans they grant. This helps prevent people from becoming over-indebted.

Do I need payment protection insurance?

Payment protection insurance is usually optional. It can cover your repayments in the event of incapacity for work, unemployment or death. We’ll gladly explain whether it makes sense in your situation.

Refinance & top up

When is refinancing worthwhile?

Refinancing is worthwhile above all if your current rate is significantly higher than a new offer, if you want to combine several loans into one payment, or if your situation has improved. We’ll calculate free of charge whether – and how much – you could save. More about refinancing

How does refinancing work?

You give us the details of your existing loan, such as the outstanding balance. We obtain a new offer. If the new loan is approved, the new lender pays off your old balance directly – leaving you with just one loan and one payment.

Can I top up my existing loan?

Yes. With a top-up, your existing loan is paid off and replaced by a new, larger loan. You receive extra money and still pay just one monthly instalment – provided your creditworthiness covers the higher amount.
